Wire crackmeters

Wire crackmeter: purpose

The wire crackmeter is an instrument designed for the continuous monitoring of displacement between two points. It is particularly suitable for applications involving long distances or significant movement variations.

How it works

The instrument consists of a potentiometric transducer, a steel wire, and a remote anchor point. The wire is maintained under constant tension between the two measuring points, allowing accurate detection of distance variations over time.

Measurement is obtained through the rotation of an internal potentiometer proportional to the wire displacement, enabling automated monitoring even over long distances.

Applications

Thanks to its configuration, the instrument is particularly suitable for monitoring slow, progressive movements typically associated with landslides, structural settlement, and the deformation of large structures.

Construction

The rugged construction and high protection rating make the sensor suitable for permanent installation in harsh outdoor environments.
