Triaxial accelerometer

Triaxial accelerometer: purpose

The triaxial accelerometer is a device designed to measure acceleration at the point where it is installed, a fundamental parameter for determining vibration frequencies and performing structural modal analysis. By carrying out periodic measurements over time, it is possible to identify variations and structural anomalies related to local damage, changes in geometry, or alterations in material behavior, ultimately allowing the current condition of the structure to be assessed through Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).

Technology

The GESTECNO accelerometer is based on capacitive MEMS technology with a digital output and can be connected to a data logger via an RS485 serial line using a proprietary communication protocol.

Dual accelerometer

It contains a high-resolution accelerometer sensor and a backup accelerometer sensor. The presence of two onboard accelerometers allows the operator to immediately determine whether an anomalous reading is due to a malfunction of the measurement sensor or to an actual structural anomaly by comparing the outputs of the two sensors in real time, thereby avoiding unnecessary inspections.

GPS module

The sensor is also equipped with an integrated GPS module which, through communication with multiple satellite constellations, ensures acquisition synchronization, a key requirement for modal analysis.
