Rockfall barrier monitoring
This innovative system involves the installation of a low-power data acquisition unit on one of the two end posts of the rockfall barrier. The unit is powered by a photovoltaic panel and a backup battery, sized to ensure operation even during the winter period and to minimize maintenance requirements. A chain of accelerometers extends from the unit, fixed to the upper steel cable using dedicated clamps and positioned approximately at the midpoint of each panel. The accelerometers are connected in series by a single cable fastened to the same upper cable. They are equipped with an RS485 digital output and can be connected in series up to a maximum of 20 sensors. The accelerometers remain in low-power sleep mode until they detect an impact caused by a rockfall or debris flow. When a configurable threshold is exceeded, the accelerometer and the unit are activated, and the system immediately sends an alarm email to one or more email addresses and/or an SMS to one or more mobile phone numbers.
Camera and monitoring portal
The unit is also equipped with a camera aimed at the rockfall barrier. In the event of an alarm, the camera captures an image and sends it to a dedicated portal. Using the credentials provided, the user can access the portal and view, in real time, a range of information on the monitoring system, including battery voltage, historical acquired values, alarm history, and the graphical recording of the event, as well as the image sent by the camera.
