Vibrating wire stressmeter: purpose
The vibrating wire stressmeter for rock boreholes is designed to monitor stress variations within rock masses and can be installed in boreholes up to 30 meters deep.
How it works
The instrument consists of a high-strength steel sensing ring, firmly fixed to the borehole wall, and a tensioned vibrating wire positioned along the opposite diameter. Variations in rock stress cause changes in wire tension, resulting in a corresponding shift in resonant frequency.
Signal and acquisition
The frequency variation is converted into an output signal that can be acquired through compatible portable readout units or dataloggers, ensuring accurate and reliable long-term monitoring.
